SMUG Extension Class in Green Bay

I’m on Packerland Drive in Green Bay at the corporate headquarters of Schneider National, a transportation firm with lots of orange trucks, for the monthly meeting of the NE Wisconsin chapter of the Public Relations Society of America.

Here are the slides I used for my presentation, which was entitled Not Your Father’s Media (Yet).

Here are five immediate steps the PRSA members can take to dive into social media:

  1. Comment on the presentation in the post below, and ask any questions we didn’t get to cover.
  2. Join Facebook and “friend” me.
  3. Sign up for Twitter and “follow” me.
  4. Sign up for Google Reader, take the tour, and subscribe to some RSS feeds (including SMUG’s). If you want it by old-fashioned e-mail, get that here.
  5. Enroll in SMUG by joining the Facebook group.

This should all maybe take another 30 minutes or so to get started, but it hopefully will launch you on a lifetime of social media exploration.

Hi Lee – I’m hoping for an “A” in this class, so I’m doing my homework! OK, tell us! Which one of our companies “sucks”?

Hi Lee. Nice presentation! Here’s a question we didn’t get to talk about: What’s your next social media venture? Any new tools you are experimenting with? Brenda

Lee – Truly enjoyed your presentation and, like Roz, am busy on my homework. Thanks for brining this information to our group. I’m sure we’ll be conversing with you frequently as we learn more. – Jim

I don’t want to defame a good company by naming it on the blog, but here’s the link to a group formed by some disgruntled customers.

It shows up as the third search result in Facebook for the company name.

Thanks for your comments…next adventure for me is enhancing our podcasts, both in presentation and delivery, and finding better ways for our syndicated media and social media to work together.

I look forward to continuing the conversation with you all.

Like the slideshow…I was talking about SMUG to a group of association execs today who are curious if not sold on the idea of exploring SM. Here’s a question, if I wanted to post your slideshow on our groups site – is that possible?

If you go to the direct slideshow link on slideshare.net, you will see that there are lots of icons on the bottom that give you options for embedding on your site, whatever it is.
